UnionThe collaboration between publisher and author does not stop at the publication of the book. It shouldn't, at least. The book constitutes only the first step in a series of mutual advantages and benefits between publishers and writers. I've already talked about how publishers and authors need to collaborate in publishing marketing . This cooperation, started with the publication of the work and continued with its promotion, must be maintained and expanded. The publisher: a resource for the author What does an author earn once a book is published? Certainly not a lot of money. I'm obviously not talking about famous writers and publishing giants. For those the situation is different.
Image : once an author has published a book, that publication automatically becomes part of his CV. It's an extra point, which he can use to better present himself to another publishing house. Advertising : his name will be present in the Special Data catalog and on the publisher's website and for the author it is all free advertising. The author: a resource for the publisher A publisher makes a profit from a publication. That's why he opened his publishing house. For the passion for books, of course, but he must also live by it. Books : an author who has already published can guarantee the publisher new works. It's in his best interest to write again, after all. Expertise : Is an author seen as an expert in a certain field? Almonst never.
Doesn't a writer who has published several horror or fantasy novels have experience in the field? How to exploit the skills of the writer The collaboration between publisher and author can be continued and expanded, as I mentioned at the beginning of the post, through a series of initiatives that start from the direct, professional and cultural experience of the writer. Writing courses : perhaps there are too many around, but very few in the sector, aimed at a specific topic. A course on fantasy fiction, horror, character characterization, etc., can be created. The publisher provides the spaces and the organization and the author the teaching. Debates : a debate, in which readers can participate, on the situation of fantasy in Italy, a conference on a specific publication and its themes, etc.
